Division of Biblical Studies

Old Testament Interpretation

B0101 Old Testament Survey 3 hours
A comprehensive overview of the entire Old Testament. The course develops the biblical, chronological, and theological framework of each book. Emphasis is placed on the unity and coordination of the Old Testament.
B0201 Pentateuch 3 hours
A detailed study of the first five books of the Old Testament. Emphasis is placed on the development of the theocratic program of God and on significant persons and events in the program.
B0202 Historic Books 3 hours
A synthetic study of the history of Israel recorded in the Old Testament historical books, Joshua through 2 Chronicles. The study begins with Israel's prophetic history recorded in Deuteronomy, and then traces major events and personages that lead to the establishment of the nation, its exile, and restoration.
B0301 Prophetic Books Survey 3 hours
A survey of the major and minor prophets, with attention to the date, authorship, theme, and historical setting of each book. Covenant and eschatological implications are noted in addition to Christological themes.
B0302 Poetic Books 3 hours
A study of the poetry division of the Old Testament (Job through Song of Solomon). These books are considered for their doctrinal and practical values, with Job, the Messianic Psalms, and Ecclesiastes receiving special attention.

New Testament Interpretation

BN101 Life of Christ 3 hours
A thematic study of the earthly life of Christ as set forth in the Gospels. Special emphasis is given to the role of Christ as Messiah and as Revealer. His identification, authentication, presentation, and rejection are studied in the light of Abrahamic promises.
BN102 New Testament Survey 3 hours
A comprehensive overview of the entire New Testament. The course develops the biblical, chronological, and theological framework of each book.
BN202 Acts 2 hours
An in-depth study of the early Church, its origin, expansion, early organization, and activity. Emphasis is given to the activities of the apostles and of the Apostle Paul.
BN301 Pauline Epistles 1 3 hours
A brief introduction to and a careful exposition of Romans, 1 Corinthians, and 2 Corinthians.
BN302 Pauline Epistles 2 3 hours
A brief introduction to and a careful exposition of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, and Philemon.
BN303 General Epistles Survey 3 hours
A brief introduction and a careful exposition of Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Jude.
BN304 Daniel and Revelation 3 hours
A study of the great prophetic statements of Daniel and Revelation. Careful attention is given to the covenants, the Christological implications, and the unfolding of God's purposes in Israel, the Nations, and the Church.

Languages

BL202 Introduction to Biblical Languages 3 hours
An introductory course to biblical Hebrew and Greek designed to provide students with an elementary understanding of the alphabet, pronunciation and vocabulary enabling the proper use of the basic tools of language study.
BL301 Greek 1 3 hours
A beginner's course in which the student is required to master the rudiments of the language as preparation for translation of New Testament books from the original language. Emphasis is placed on nouns and indicative mood verbs.
BL302 Greek 2 3 hours
A continuation of Greek 1 with an emphasis on verbal elements outside the indicative mood.

Hermeneutics

BH101 Biblical Interpretation 3 hours
An introduction to various tools of Bible study, and a methodical and inductive approach to study of the Scriptures utilizing basic historical-grammatical principles of interpretation. This course includes opportunities to practise using the tools, methods, and principles.
BH302 Advanced Hermeneutics 3 hours
A detailed study of the principles of biblical interpretation, with particular emphasis on the application to the various literary genres used in the Bible.

Theological Studies

BT101 Theology Foundations 3 hours
A survey of systematic theology, including the doctrines of God, revelation and the Bible, angels, humanity, Christ, the Holy Spirit, salvation, the Church and final things.
BT301 Systematic Theology 1 3 hours
A study of prolegomena (introductory matters), bibliology (the doctrine of the Bible), theology proper (the doctrine of God), and Christology (the doctrine of Christ).
BT302 Systematic Theology 2 3 hours
A study of angelology (the doctrine of angels, demons, and Satan), pneumatology (the doctrine of the Holy Spirit), anthropology (the doctrine of man), and hamartiology (the doctrine of sin).
BT401 Systematic Theology 3 3 hours
A study of soteriology (the doctrine of salvation), encompassing the Person and work of the Saviour on the Cross.
BT402 Systematic Theology 4 3 hours
A study of ecclesiology (the doctrine of the Church) and eschatology (the doctrine of last things).

Historical Studies

BC202 Baptist History 3 hours
A survey of the development of the Christian church from its inception, with emphasis given to Baptist history and principles. Baptist groups appearing in the Americas, particularly in the Caribbean, from the colonial era to the present will be investigated.
